The Legendary Origins of Tea:

The story of tea began in ancient China over 5,000 years ago.

According to legend, Shen Nong an early emperor, was a skilled ruler, creative scientist and patron of the arts.

His far-sighted edicts required, among other things, that all drinking water be boiled as a hygiene precaution.

One summer day while visiting a distant region of his land, he and the court stopped to rest. In accordance with his ruling, the servants boiled water for the court to drink. Dried leaves from a nearby bush fell into the boiling water, and a brown liquid was infused. As a scientist, the Emperor was interested in the fascinating brew, drank some, and found it to be very refreshing. And so, according to legend, tea was discovered.

The Legend Continues at T bar:

September 1999 the first T bar opens in the Adelaide Central Market, the music is clear and cool, coming through the shop sound system with the sub-woofer laying down the beat. Walls are coloured black and red, no muted tones.

With communal tables, trademark red bags, black shop fittings and quirky accessories, you’ll need to remind yourself you’re not in a funky European café, but in Adelaide’s unique T bar. Leave all your notions of tired old tea at the door; here the creators of T bar have designed a unique concept that drives loose-leaf tea right into the fore.

A backdrop of a wall with black shelves filled with over one hundred carefully chosen teas to select from is pleasure enough, but there’s also an extensive gift range mostly themed around tea. T bar also have a wide range of tea accompaniments which are ever expanding, so drop by for a look, a chat and if they don’t have it, they’ll scour the world for it!

Our first store is located in the unique Adelaide Central Market, our second store is in the Lower Ground of the new David Jones complex in Rundle Mall (Adelaide Central Plaza), and our third and latest store is at the Burnside Village Shopping Centre, T bar extends the conventional food experience by serving exotic loose-leaf tea prepared with reverse osmosis water. T bar believes that tea is only as good as the water it’s brewed in.
